5. Ask The Editor

Will an Aspirin restore and extend battery life?

The old myth goes something like this.  If you drop half an Aspirin in each cell of a dead battery it will magically have new life and work like new.  Does it work?  Simply put, no.  The Aspirin forms ascetic acid which will actually attack the positive grid thus shortening battery life.  That's definitely not good! However,  it might be a fun experiment on a battery you're going to throw away anyways to see if there are any short term benefits.  When it comes to your house batteries the only thing going into them should be distilled water, period!  Save the Aspirin for real headaches.

Do you have a question about renewable energy or off-grid living? Comments or feedback? We would love to hear from you. You can use our contact form to easily send us your inquiry.

Until next time,  The Power-Talk Crew
