Abundant Renewable
Energy
Abundant Renewable Energy (ARE) is
located in Newberg Oregon. At one time they were the distributor for
the African Wind Power AWP 3.6. ARE no longer sells the African
produce but they indicate that they still provide some support and
parts. Currently they carry their own branded turbine, the ARE 110
and ARE 442, The ARE 110 is based on the AWP 3.6 design.
ARE110

The ARE 110 has an interesting story.
It started as the AWP 3.6 which was a machine full of conflicting
reports. On the positive side the AWP 3.6 was a solid built machine
that had a reputation for standing up to harsh, windy climates.
However the downfall was in poor quality control during manufacturing
and a scarcity of parts. Instead of continuing to fight the quality
issues, Abundant Renewable Energy built the ARE 110 as a beefed up
version of the AWP 3.6. It appears they did a very good job of
putting new life into a questionable machine.
Well, new life as far as a better wind
turbine was concerned. ARE filled for Chapter 11 bankruptcy in March
2009. Helix, a company that markets vertical axis wind turbines, is
the acquiring company.
This certainly makes one stand back and
wonder what happened. Maybe people are opposed to paying the high
price that the ARE 110 commands? Maybe assembling turbines in the US
from low cost, foreign built components is not profitable? According
to an article from the Portland Business Journal, the turbines were
assembled at the Newburg location largely using parts made overseas.
So the bottom line here is that the turbines were not made of
expensive U.S. manufactured parts but in our opinion they were priced
as such. It does appear that Helix will continue to honor warranties
on past ARE turbine installations.
ARE442

The ARE 442 is the big brother to the 110 and are identical in
appearance and function. Like the ARE110 the ARE442 is also a heavy,
low RPM turbine that furls.

The
Ultimate
Consumer's Guide To Wind Power" is not comprised of these
exact pages.
The ebook
does
contain thorough, in-depth content, side-by-side comparisons, and our
unbiased opinion of each turbine.
